چکیده

Abstract Nitrogen doping of carbon nanomaterials has emerged as a method to develop novel material properties, though limitations in the form extended treatment times, harsh chemical usage and limited total nitrogen content exist. Here, macroscopic ribbon-like assemblies nanotubes are functionalized with using simple direct current-based plasma–liquid system. This system utilizes plasma-generated species an ethanol:water solution ethylenediamine precursor for functionalization nanotube assembly. These unique, pathways enable rapid high levels atomic concentration reaching 22.5%, amine groups, pyrrolic groups graphitic observed X-ray photoelectron spectra, highest ever achieved. is demonstrated be significantly higher than comparative electrolysis process. demonstrates that this plasma process enhances availability from precursor, facilitating greater functionalization. Functionalization of Carbon Nanotubes

Albeit initially reported by a Russian group and reported again by Oberlin and co-workers (Oberlin et al., 1976), carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were first brought to the attention of greater scientific community by Ijima in 1991. It was not until 1991 that CNTs came to limelight unfolding its exotic properties. Following this report, academic interest in this onedimensional nanomaterial has grown rem...

Functionalization of carbon nanotubes

The functionalization of single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) is a very actively discussed topic in contemporary nanotube literature because the planned modification of SWCNT properties is believed to open the road towards real nanotechnology applications. In this contribution, some recent results are reported on the subject. Covalent attachment of functional groups, their influence on tube-tu...

Noncovalent Functionalization of Carbon Nanotubes

Within the past decades extensive research has shed light into the structure, reactivity and properties of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) [1–3]. This new carbon allotrope is theoretically constructed by rolling up a graphene sheet into a cylinder with the hexagonal rings joining seamlessly. Commonly, carbon nanotubes are classified into single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) which consist of one cyli...

Asymmetric end-functionalization of carbon nanotubes.

Many microor nanostructured objects owe their functionality to asymmetry. For instance, bifunctional molecules bearing two different groups at their ends are essential components of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) with tailored surface properties. While one of these groups serves to anchor the molecule to the substrate surface, the group at the opposite end is exposed on the SAM surface. SAMs ...

Functionalization of vertically aligned carbon nanotubes

This review focuses and summarizes recent studies on the functionalization of carbon nanotubes oriented perpendicularly to their substrate, so-called vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (VA-CNTs). The intrinsic properties of individual nanotubes make the VA-CNTs ideal candidates for integration in a wide range of devices, and many potential applications have been envisaged. These applications c...
