High agricultural intensity at the landscape scale benefits pests, but low intensity practices at the local scale can mitigate these effects

چکیده

Agricultural production has intensified over the last century both across increasingly homogenized landscapes and at field level. This study analyzes effects of land-use intensity landscape local scales on main insect pests, predators yield grain sorghum as a summer crop in Uruguay. It represents one very few studies focused reduced system other than organic agriculture adds information from an under-studied subtropical region. Piecewise structural equation models were used to compare direct indirect intensification more sustainable practices scale densities Spodoptera frugiperda (fall armyworm) Rhopalosiphum maidis (corn leaf aphid), coccinellid abundance two-year period fields western Greater resulted increased S. densities. Lower crop-grazing rotation systems R. compared continuous cropping systems. Additionally, interacted indirectly through apparent commensalism systems, but not rotational Single management lower density, while insecticide use had no effect pest or predator species. Our analysis affirms that agricultural benefits herbivorous arthropod pests scale, can mitigate some these effects.

Identifying suitable mangrove habitats at the local scale for mangrove afforestation in southern Iran

Afforestation has been one of the most effective measures to compensate for mangrove ecosystem loss across the world and requires a detailed understanding of all contributing hydrological and physico-chemical factors affecting their growth. In this study, the Maxent habitat suitability model was employed to identify suitable mangrove habitats in the Hara Roud-e Gaz Protected Area. Presence da...

Landscape structure effects on forest plant diversity at local scale: Exploring the role of spatial extent

Since landscape attributes show different patterns at different spatial extents, it is fundamental to identify how the relation between landscape structure and plant species diversity at local scale varies with scale. Then, it is fundamental to assess the appropriate extent at which landscape factors affect plant species richness at the local scale. To investigate this relation, data on plant s...

Real-time micro-scale temperature imaging at low cost based on fluorescent intensity ratio

Real-time temperature imaging with high spatial resolution has been a challenging task but also one with wide potential applications. To achieve this task, temperature sensor is critical. Fluorescent materials stand out to be promising candidates due to their quick response and strong temperature dependence. However, former reported temperature imaging techniques with fluorescent materials are ...
