چکیده

The present study introduces the heterogeneous quasi-continuous spiking cortical model (HQC-SCM) method as a novel approach for neutron and gamma-ray pulse shape discrimination. utilizes specific neural responses to extract features in falling edge delayed fluorescence parts of radiation signals. In addition, investigates contributions HQC-SCM’s parameters its discrimination performance, leading development an automatic parameter selection strategy. As HQC-SCM is chaotic system, genetic algorithm-based optimization was proposed locate local optima solutions efficiently robustly just few iterations evolution. experimental results this demonstrate that outperforms traditional state-of-the-art algorithms, including percentage slope, zero crossing, charge comparison, frequency gradient analysis, pulse-coupled network, ladder methods. outstanding performance enables plastic scintillators compete with liquid crystal scintillators’ ability. Additionally, other methods when dealing noisy Therefore, it effective robust can be applied detection systems across various fields.

Pulse-shape discrimination with PbWO4 crystal scintillators

The light output, α/β ratio, and pulse shape have been investigated at −25◦ C with PbWO4 crystal scintillators undoped, and doped by F, Eu, Mo, Gd and S. The fast 0.01 − 0.06 μs and middle 0.1 − 0.5 μs components of scintillation decay were observed for all the samples. Slow components of scintillation signal with the decay times 1− 3 μs and 13− 28 μs with the total intensity up to ≈ 50% have b...

Spiking Cortical Model for Rotation and Scale Invariant Texture Retrieval

Retrieval of texture images, especially those with different orientation and scale changes, is a challenging and important problem in image analysis. This paper adopts spiking cortical model (SCM) to explore geometrical invariant texture retrieval schemes based on Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) coefficients of pulse images. The series of pulse images, outputs of SCM, have a robust talent for e...

Pulse Shape Discrimination with The Neutron Walls at NCSL

The National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory at Michigan State University has recently completed the Coupled Cyclotron Upgrade. The new facility will concentrate on the study of rare isotopes produced in fragmentation reactions. Neutron-rich unstable isotopes can be investigated via break-up reactions. The resulting neutrons will be detected in two walls of position sensitive detectors. Ea...

Digital pulse-shape discrimination of fast neutrons and γ rays

Discrimination of the detection of fast neutrons and γ rays in a liquid scintillator detector has been investigated using digital pulse-processing techniques. An experimental setup with a 252Cf source, a BC-501 liquid scintillator detector, and a BaF2 detector was used to collect waveforms with a 100 Ms/s, 14 bit sampling ADC. Three identical ADC’s were combined to increase the sampling frequen...
