Heterogeneous Activation of Persulfate by Nickel Oxide/Strontium Carbonate Composite for Sulfamethoxazole Degradation in Water

The development of efficient heterogeneous persulfate activators is one the main research topics in wastewater treatment area. present work deals with activation sodium (SPS) using nickel oxide/strontium carbonate (NiO/SrCO3) for degradation sulfamethoxazole (SMX), a representative compound from group antibiotics. Results showed that NiO/SrCO3 exhibited high performance towards SPS, leading to SMX elimination brief time spans. impact SPS (25–100 mg/L), (50–250 and (0.25–3.00 mg/L) concentration, initial pH on decomposition was further examined. Experiments were also conducted real matrices such as secondary effluent bottled water, revealing existence retarding phenomena compared ultrapure water. This behavior investigated addition bicarbonates, chlorides, or humic acid It found organic matter significantly hampered removal. role radicals (hydroxyl sulfate radicals) determined appropriate radical traps (methanol tert-butanol). These quenching experiments combined electrochemical measurements revealed both non-radical mechanism contribute SMX.
