چکیده

The cultivation of tolerant species with low-quality irrigation water is one the main strategies to address lack availability water. In this work, effect salinity on plant growth, nutritional composition, and quality features Hedypnois cretica Urospermum picroides was tested. Fresh yield leaves roots both were severely decreased under high salinity, while mineral profile also showed a decrease in most minerals. recorded values K/Na Ca/Na ratios indicate that H. has higher susceptibility salt stress due respective compared U. picroides. Leaf pigments total phenolic compounds content not significantly affected by soluble solids titratable acidity increased increasing cases. Moreover, free proline opposite trend for nitrates’ content. conclusion, our findings tailor-made nutrient solutions could allow use low commercial picroides, thus allowing their domestication integration cropping systems where conventional crops compromised.

Plant Growth and Development under Salinity Stress

Plant growth and development are adversely affected by salinity – a major environmental stress that limits agricultural production. This chapter provides an overview of the physiological mechanisms by which growth and development of crop plants are affected by salinity. The initial phase of growth reduction is due to an osmotic effect, is similar to the initial response to water stress and show...

Selenium enhances nutrient uptake and rosmarinic acid biosynthesis in Melissa officinalis L. under salinity stress

Salt stress is a serious problem facing plant growth and development. Selenium (Se) could improve plant growth and reduced stress. Hence, the aim of this study was to determine whether the Se application could alleviate salinity stress negative effects on Melissa officinalis L. Different salinity levels in this research were control (0), 50, 100 and 200 mM. Simultaneously, sodium selenate (Se) ...

Cytogenetical studies on achene colour polymorphism of Picris asplenoides L. and Urospermum picroides L. (Asteraceae) in Egypt.

Achene morphs of Picris asplenoides L. and Urospermum picroides L. were investigated in order to gain insight into its genetic variation based on the evidence obtained from karyotype analysis, electrophoretic pattern of achene proteins as well as nucleic acid analysis. In Picris asplenoides L., three achene morphs were observed from every inflorescence as follows: violet, brown and white, these...

Physiological responses of peppermint (Mentha piperita L.) to plant growth regulators and salinity stress

Salinity of soil is a major abiotic stress limiting the crop production and growth of peppermint. The aim of study was assessment the plant growth regulators efficacy (salicylic acid (SA), jasmonic acid (JA), brassinosteroids (BRs), and non-application of hormone as control) on physiological traits of peppermint under salinity stress (0, 30, and 60 mM). The experiment was conducted using the co...

Antioxidant System Response and cDNA-SCoT Marker Profiling in Phoenix dactylifera L. Plant under Salinity Stress

Many Phoenix dactylifera (date palm) cultivars are grown in the arid and semiarid regions of the world, including Saudi Arabia. P. dactylifera is highly tolerant to salinity stress. To investigate the response of Khalas cultivar of P. dactylifera, two-month-old plants were treated with sodium chloride (50, 100, and 150 mM NaCl) for three months. Our result showed that proline content was higher...
