Heavy Metals in the Striped Snakehead Murrel Channa striata and Sediments of Lake Mainit Philippines with Notes on Piscine Micronuclei Occurrence

چکیده
Lake Mainit is the deepest lake in Philippines, with sporadic documentation of various types aquatic pollution. This paper reports heavy metal content muscles striped snakehead murell Channa striata and bottom sediments from five stations across using quadrupole-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (Q-ICP-MS). The micronuclei (MN) formation erythrocytes C. was also assessed for potential genotoxicity. relative order average concentrations metals samples all Zn>Cu>Cr>Ni>As>Pb>Cd. As per international safety standards, fish muscle have exceeded permissible limits Cu, Ni, Zn, which has implications health risks humans consuming this important commodity. Cr>Ni>Cu>Zn>As>Pb>Cd, where Cr, Pb, Zn standards. MN assay revealed that 98% (N=147,000 RBCs) normal cell morphology. Of 2% erythrocytic nuclear alterations (ENAs), 55% are found to be fragmented-apoptotic cells, while 31% elongated or reshaped. MNs relatively minimal at 2%. While implies not risk genotoxic injury, present study calls seasonal monitoring other fishery resources Mainit.

Isolation and multiplex genotyping of polymorphic microsatellite DNA markers in the snakehead murrel, Channa striata
Seven polymorphic microsatellite loci were isolated and characterized for the snakehead murrel, Channa striata (Channidae), a valuable tropical freshwater fish species. Among 25 specimens collected from Kedah state in Malaysia, the number of alleles per locus ranged from 2 to 7. Observed and expected heterozygosities ranged from 0.120 to 0.880 and 0.117 to 0.698, respectively. A single locus (C...
متن کاملComparison of Selected Metals Content in Cambodian Striped Snakehead Fish (Channa striata) Using Solar Drying System and Open Sun Drying
The content of 12 elements in Cambodian dried striped snakehead fish was determined using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The present study compares the level of the trace toxic metals and nutritional trace elements in the fish processed using solar drying system (SDS) and open sun drying (OSD). The skin of SDS fish has lower level of As, Pb, and Cd compared to the OSD sample. As ...
متن کاملModulation of the innate immune responses in the striped snakehead murrel, Channa striata upon experimental infection with live and heat killed Aeromonas hydrophila
It is well-known that the innate immune mechanisms in fish serve as the first line of defence against wide variety of pathogens. In most of the situations, innate responses get induced and enhanced after the pathogen invasion. It would be interesting to look into the inducibility of various innate immune mechanisms and the level of enhancement after infection with the pathogen. Hence, in the pr...
متن کاملCharacterisation of Asian Snakehead Murrel Channa striata (Channidae) in Malaysia: An Insight into Molecular Data and Morphological Approach
Conservation is imperative for the Asian snakeheads Channa striata, as the species has been overfished due to its high market demand. Using maternal markers (mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 gene (COI)), we discovered that evolutionary forces that drove population divergence did not show any match between the genetic and morphological divergence pattern. However, there is evidence o...
متن کاملPhylogeographic Pattern of the Striped Snakehead, Channa striata in Sundaland: Ancient River Connectivity, Geographical and Anthropogenic Singnatures
A phylogeographic study of an economically important freshwater fish, the striped snakehead, Channa striata in Sundaland was carried out using data from mtDNA ND5 gene target to elucidate genetic patterning. Templates obtained from a total of 280 individuals representing 24 sampling sites revealed 27 putative haplotypes. Three distinct genetic lineages were apparent; 1)northwest Peninsular Mala...
