چکیده

The objectives of the study were to determine distribution heavy metal contamination in water, sediments and biota (Callinectes amniciola) upper reaches Bonny Estuary impact on physicochemical characteristics water body. Sampled was from January June 2020. parameters varied slightly across months but within FEPA/WHO (2003) acceptable limits. Furthermore; compared seasonal variations determination Bio-accumulation Factor (BF) C. amnicola with respect sediment. site is a tidal creek that drains into main River channel Niger Delta, Nigeria. sampled locations/stations include Trans-Amadi slaughter Azuabie {N4°81'49.9 E7°04'63.4}, Okpoka Creek Abuloma {N4°78'02.43 E7°06'66.12} Okirika Jetty {N4°73'70.04 E7°09'56.93}. Samples surface swimming crabs collected three different stations which at least 1000 meters apart. results this show concentrations metals (Fe Zn) both higher media than approved limits prescribed by local regulatory authority. Although Cu relatively limit media. There therefore need control anthropogenic activities or around river. This will help prevent effluent solid waste discharges lead increase concentration aquatic environment. Routine monitoring should be encouraged identify major sources introduction river their impacts resources.

Heavy Metals Determination and Assessment in a Petroleum Impacted River in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria

The concentrations of heavy metals (mg/g) Pb, Ni, Cu, Cr, Fe, Co, Cd, and Hg in the water and sediments of river Ijana Warri, were determined in order to assess the impact of petroleum-processing activities on the river and the surrounding environment. The data showed that the levels of these metals ranged between 0.15-1.18 and 0.10-0.48 in sediment and water respectively. The heavy metals conc...

An Evaluation of Heavy Metals Concentration in the Choba Section of the New Calabar River, Eastern Niger Delta

Heavy metals are dangerous because they tend to accumulate. Compounds accumulate in living things any time they are taken up and stored faster than they are broken down or extracted (metabolized). Heavy metals can enter the water supply by industrial or consumer waste or even from acidic rain breaking down soils and releasing heavy metals into streams, lakes, rivers and ground waters [1]. Altho...

Heavy Metals in Surface Soils in the Upper Reaches of the Heihe River, Northeastern Tibetan Plateau, China

The upper reaches of the Heihe River have been regarded as a hotspot for phytoecology, climate change, water resources and hydrology studies. Due to the cold-arid climate, high elevation, remote location and poor traffic conditions, few studies focused on heavy metal contamination of soils have been conducted or reported in this region. In the present study, an investigation was performed to pr...

Interseasonal distribution and partitioning of heavy metals in subtidal sediment of Qua Iboe Estuary and associated Creeks, Niger Delta (Nigeria).

An analysis of the distribution and chemical forms of selected metals: cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni) and lead (Pb) in subtidal sediments of Qua Iboe Estuary and adjourning creeks, collected between June 2000 and January 2001, were studied using a sequential chemical extraction method. The concentration of metals in each extracted fraction was determined using inductively...
