Heavy Metal Contamination and Ecological Risk Assessment in the Soil of Tannery Industry at Savar

Heavy metal contamination in soil is considered a global crisis and its bulk proportion are developing countries like Bangladesh. Five heavy metals such as Cd, Cr, Pb, Cu Ni were investigated the of Savar tannery industrial estate. The decreasing trend was observed Cr>Cu>Ni>Pb>Cd. According to US EPA guideline, Cr heavily polluted at selected locations. highly polluted, whereas Cd Pb not moderately polluted. On basis Pearson’s correlation Cd-Pb, Cd-Cu, Cu-Ni, Ni-Cu, Ni-Pb significantly correlated. From pollution index, sediments found order Cr>Cu>Pb>Cd. Degree modified degree higher dumping zones. geo-accumulation index for showed moderate extremely contaminated. Ecological risk arrayed Cr>Cu>Ni>Pb>Cd study area. Geographic information system (GIS) also used map spatial distribution soil. This recommended that continuous monitoring should be directed assess their industry Savar.
