Heat Transfer and Residence Time Distribution in Plug Flow Continuous Oscillatory Baffled Crystallizers

چکیده
Heat transfer coefficients in a continuous oscillatory baffled crystallizer (COBC) with nominal internal diameter of 15 mm have been determined as function flow and conditions typically used under processing conditions. Residence time distribution measurements show near-plug high Peclet numbers on the order 100–1000 s, although there was significant oscillation damping longer COBC setups. Very rapid heat found typical conditions, overall 100 s W m–2 K–1. Furthermore, poor mixing cooling jacket observed when lower rates were implemented an attempt to decrease rate achieve more gradual temperature profile along length. Utilizing experimentally coefficients, theoretical case study is presented investigate effects supersaturation profiles highlight potential fouling issues during plug crystallization.

Crystal Engineering in Continuous Plug-Flow Crystallizers
Size, shape, and polymorphic form are the critical attributes of crystalline particles and represent the major focus of today's crystallization process design. This work demonstrates how crystal properties can be tuned efficiently in solution via a tubular crystallizer that facilitates rapid temperature cycling. Controlled crystal growth, dissolution, and secondary nucleation allow a precise co...
متن کاملDesign and Optimization of Plug Flow Crystallizers
This study presents the development of a plug flow crystallization (PFC) platform consisting of a vortex mixer combined with a tubular reactor. Process analytical technologies (FBRM, PVM, FT-IR) were applied in-situ in order to characterize and optimize crystallizations via the use of novel flow cells. In addition to this a new calibration free method for concentration monitoring was successful...

As a sustainable alternative for conventional batch-based synthetic techniques, the concept of continuous-flow processing has emerged in the synthesis of fine chemicals. Systematic tuning of the residence time, a key parameter of continuous-reaction technology, can govern the outcome of a chemical reaction by determining the reaction rate and the conversion and by influencing the product select...

Continuous powder mixing is an efficient alternative in high volume manufacturing of powder-based products. A new method is communicated in this paper to determine the effects of different operating conditions andmixer configurations onmixing performance. Themain idea of the proposedmethodology is the utilization of experimental residence time distribution (RTD) measurements to (a) determine th...

In this article, mixed convection heat transfer of alumina-water nanofluid in an inclined and baffled C-shape enclosure is studied. It is assumed that the flow is laminar and steady. There is no energy production, energy storage and viscous heat dissipation. Furthermore, the nanofluid is considered as a continuous, Newtonian and incompressible fluid. Governing equations are discretized by finit...
