Heat Conduction in Nanostructured Materials Predicted by Phonon Bulk Mean Free Path Distribution
We develop a computational framework, based on the Boltzmann transport equation (BTE), with the ability to compute thermal transport in nanostructured materials of any geometry using, as the only input, the bulk cumulative thermal conductivity. The main advantage of our method is twofold. First, while the scattering times and dispersion curves are unknown for most materials, the phonon mean fre...
متن کاملHyperbolic Heat Conduction in Composite Materials
A hyperbolic heat conduction (HHC) equation has been proposed to replace Fourier heat conduction equation in cases heat transfer takes place in a very short period of time or at extremely low temperature. There is a growing interest in the investigation of HHC problem in recent years, but to the author’s knowledge, HHC in composite media in multidimension has not been studied up to date. This p...
متن کاملThermal conduction phenomena in carbon nanotubes and related nanostructured materials
The extremely high thermal conductivities of carbon nanotubes have motivated a wealth of research. Progress includes innovative conduction metrology based on microfabricated platforms and scanning thermal probes as well as simulations exploring phonon dispersion and scattering using both transport theory and molecular dynamics. This article highlights these advancements as part of a detailed re...
متن کاملThe method of fundamental solutions for transient heat conduction in functionally graded materials: some special cases
In this paper, the Method of Fundamental Solutions (MFS) is extended to solve some special cases of the problem of transient heat conduction in functionally graded materials. First, the problem is transformed to a heat equation with constant coefficients using a suitable new transformation and then the MFS together with the Tikhonov regularization method is used to solve the resulting equation.
متن کاملElectrostatics and heat conduction in high contrast composite materials
We present a robust integral equation method for the calculation of the electrostatic and thermal properties of systems made of piecewise homogeneous, high contrast materials. By high contrast, we mean that the electrical or thermal conductivity ratios are high. Our approach involves a modification of the standard integral representation using, in electrostatic terms, the polarization charge as...
