Head and neck posture influences masticatory muscle electromyographic amplitude in healthy subjects and patients with temporomandibular disorder: a preliminary study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background: Despite the association of masticatory function with head posture and mandible movement, impact on masseter muscle electrical activity remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate anterior temporal, masseter, superior trapezius, sternocleidomastoid muscles in temporomandibular disorder (TMD) patients three different positions compare findings those for healthy subjects.

Neck kinematics and sternocleidomastoid muscle activation during neck rotation in subjects with forward head posture
[Purpose] The present study investigated differences in the kinematics of the neck and activation of the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle during neck rotation between subjects with and without forward head posture (FHP). [Subjects and Methods] Twenty-eight subjects participated in the study (14 with FHP, 14 without FHP). Subjects performed neck rotation in two directions, left and right. The ki...
متن کاملElectromyographic evaluation of masticatory, neck, and trunk muscle activity in patients with posterior crossbites.
This study investigated the pattern of masticatory, neck, and trunk muscle activity in patients with posterior crossbites and associated mandibular displacement. The test group consisted of 75 patients [45 males mean age 19.5 years, SD 5.6 years, and 30 females mean age 20.4 (SD 3.2) years]. Of this group, 25 patients presented a left posterior crossbite, 25 a right posterior crossbite, and the...
متن کاملMasticatory function in temporomandibular dysfunction patients: electromyographic evaluation.
Temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) is a complex disturbance that involves the masticatory muscles and/or temporomandibular joint, causing damage to the masticatory function. This study evaluated the electromyographic activity of the masseter muscle during habitual mastication of bread, apple, banana, cashew nut and paraffin film (Parafilm M) in 25 adult subjects, of both gender, with TMD. The ...

Masticatory and cervical muscle tenderness and pain sensitivity in a remote area in subjects with a temporomandibular disorder and neck disability.
AIMS To compare the masticatory and cervical muscle tenderness and pain sensitivity in the hand (remote region) between patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and healthy controls. METHODS Twenty female subjects were diagnosed with chronic TMD, and 20 were considered healthy. Subjects completed the Neck Disability Index and Limitations of Daily Functions in a TMD questionnaire. Tende...
