Haze in Pluto's atmosphere: Results from SOFIA and ground-based observations of the 2015 June 29 Pluto occultation

چکیده
On UT 29 June 2015, the occultation by Pluto of a bright star (r? = 11.9) was observed from Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) and several ground-based stations in New Zealand Australia. Pre-event astrometry allowed an in-flight update to SOFIA team with result that deep within central flash zone (~22 km center). Analysis combined data leads Pluto's middle atmosphere is essentially unchanged 2011 2013 (Person et al. 2013; Bosh 2015); there has been no significant expansion or contraction atmosphere. Additionally, our multi-wavelength observations allow us conclude haze component required reproduce light curves obtained. This scenario implications understanding photochemistry

15 صفحه اولObservations of a successive stellar occultation by Charon and graze by Pluto in 2011
Introduction: Since the late 1980s, stellar occultations have provided snapshots of the Pluto system and specifically of Pluto’s atmospheric evolution. The lower atmosphere, below roughly half-light level in an occultation light curve, has changed distinctly over time (e.g. [1, 2]). Theorized explanations for the lower atmospheric structure include a steep thermal gradient and/or extinction, th...

متن کاملStellar Occultation Saturn ' s Upper Observations of Atmosphere
We have analyzed three stellar occultation observations of Saturn's upper atmosphere during the years 1989 to 1995. These occultations probed the stratosphere at pressure levels about 0.5 to 20 pbars, intermediate to those probed by the Pioneer 11, Voyager I and II radio and ultraviolet occultations. The time span of the earlier occultations and the observation of a higher latitude occultation ...

On 7 June 1972 the third , Jovian satellite Ganymede occulted the eighth-magnitude star SAO 186800. Successful photoelectric observations obtained at Lembang, Java (Indonesia), and Kavalur, India, show nonabrupt immersions and emersions, indicating the presence of an atmosphere whose surface pressure is greater than about 10(-3) millibar. By fitting the two occultation durations as chords to a ...
