Harmful algal blooms in the coastal waters of Bangladesh: an overview

چکیده
Harmful algal blooms (HABs) constitute a global problem, affecting aquatic ecosystems, human health, fisheries and local economies. The Bay of Bengal, along the Bangladesh coast, is exceedingly suffering from pollution or anthropogenic nutrification that influences frequently occurring HAB species. progression climate change eutrophication invigorate trends responses in turn affect respective coastal livelihood economic growth. Tripos spp., Dinophysis Protoperidinium Chaetoceros Pseudo-nitzschia spp. are common bloom-forming species waters Bangladesh. Despite having huge potentiality for regional perspectives, region remains relatively unexplored compared to other regions context HABs their pernicious effects. As result, harmful accumulation toxins may interrupt fisheries, aquaculture, ecosystems public health country. Therefore, proper research on biology ecology algae, biotoxins relationship with environmental factors need be adequately understood minimize adverse effects noted marine resources Bay. This review focused an overview related issues – causes HABs, occurrences abundances, associated zone

Harmful algal blooms in western Canadian coastal waters
British Columbia (B.C.), the Pacific province of Canada, has one of the longest documented histories of the severest form of harmful algal blooms, paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP), along its entire 27,000 km coastline. The first documented case was in 1793 when four of Capt. George Vancouver’s survey crew became ill after a meal of mussels while charting the central coast (Mussel Inlet, orig...
متن کاملAn Overview on the Occurrences of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) and Mitigation Strategies in Korean Coastal Waters
Recent wide spread and persistent harmful algal blooms (HABs) give severe impacts on public health and fisheries economics along all coasts of Korea. As the HABs have become more widespread and caused increasing fisheries damage, Korea established an integrated monitoring system included oceanographic, environmental, and red tides observations. Both oceanographic and environmental data and remo...
متن کاملModels of Harmful Algal Blooms
Models used to study harmful algal blooms are a subset of those used to examine more general planktonic processes. Most models have been heuristic, examining the likelihood of certain processes generating a harmful algal bloom. Several models have been more closely coupled to field data and have been used to gain insights into the dynamics underlying the observations. As better physical and bio...
متن کاملAn overview of the interagency, International Symposium on Cyanobacterial Harmful Algal Blooms (ISOC-HAB): advancing the scientific understanding of freshwater harmful algal blooms.
There is growing evidence that the spatial and temporal incidence of harmful algal blooms is increasing, posing potential risks to human health and ecosystem sustainability. Currently there are no US Federal guidelines, Water Quality Criteria and Standards, or regulations concerning the management of harmful algal blooms. Algal blooms in freshwater are predominantly cyanobacteria, some of which...
