The works of post-war reconstruction in Munich by the German architect Hans Döllgast (1891–1974) have become a reference point for interpretative modern architectural responses to damaged heritage. In context Berlin’s museum restorations past fifteen years, leading designers from David Chipperfield Roger Diener paid tribute Döllgast’s inspirational restitution Alte Pinakothek art 1950s. This article revisits contribution drawing on wider corpus his writings. critical attitude Modernism is examined not as quirk, but rather key distinct achievements reconstruction. Unlike existing accounts that assess work case studies, focuses cross-cutting themes approach.
