Hand Hygiene by Ward Staff at Dapaong Regional Hospital in Togo

Introduction: Hand hygiene (HH) is an effective way to fight infections in healthcare settings. The general purpose of our study was explore the knowledge, attitudes and practices health care providers on HH at Dapaong regional hospital (DRH). Methodology: This a prospective, descriptive cross-sectional conducted from March June 2022 DRH wards. Data were collected using questionnaire observation grid. Results: 90 surveyed. Males non-physician personnel predominated with 57.8%, 94.4% respectively. survey staff’s knowledge reported: 31.1% practitioners did not wash their hands arrival departure services. 24% know difference between simple hand washing (SHW) hygienic (HHW). 23.3% type soap use for HHW. caregivers (HW) required after septic non-septic procedure respectively 41.6%, 37.8%. They that there are two types antiseptics (45.4%), nor amount antiseptic HW (78.9%). attitude regarding found that: 70% remove all jewels prior HW, 51.1% wearing gloves cannot replace HW. For Staff Practice: 62.2% before treatment. 91.1% spread forearms wetting them. 65.55% rinse nails elbows. Conclusion: poorly known, staff dangerous relation practice very inadequate RHC-Dapaong. As result, need retrain increase capacity prevent care-related enhance patient safety hospital.
