Half-Height Pin Gap Waveguide-Based Slow-Wave Structure for Millimeter Wave Traveling-Wave Tubes

The design of a ${W}$ -band traveling-wave tube (TWT) power amplifier based on groove gap waveguide (GW) slow-wave circuit is presented in this article. technology GW analyzed to aid the electromagnetic band gap-based structures (SWSs) upper millimeter wave range spectrum while alleviating some typical fabrication challenges at these frequencies. results particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations numerically demonstrate 10-GHz instantaneous 3-dB bandwidth 89–99 GHz with minimum gain 25 dB. A prototype complete SWS manufactured via computer numerical control (CNC) machining and measured verify cold simulation results. Machining tolerances surface roughness are also investigated. approach flexible can be extended alternative rectangular waveguide-based SWSs.
