Hair manifestations in factory workers with arsenic exposure in Hayatabad industrial estate Peshawar, Pakistan

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: Arsenic is present both naturally and from manmade sources like factory effluents. Contamination by arsenic of the groundwater a major source health detriment in south-east Asian countries. The aim this study was to identify levels drinking water effluents analyse hair samples workers their families, along with morphological changes industrial Peshawar.
 METHODOLOGY: Water were collected random sampling labor colony 81 non-factory household members living working same estate analyzed for arsenic. Hair morphology carried out histomorphology laboratory at Khyber Medical University, Peshawar. results obtained groups compared normal histomorphology. data using SPSS version 20.
 RESULTS: level water, tube wells households not within permissible WHO (10µg/L). effluent 68µg/l (Pakistan Government's acceptable 50µg/L). difference statistically significant p≤0.001 between two groups, had relatively higher arsenic, ~34ppb, scalp hair. also came be <1.00µg/g. There wide variation groups.
 CONCLUSION: Elevated demonstrate improper decontamination. levels, long term effects cannot ruled out.
