Feeding trials with foliage feeding insect S. litura using plants grown under four concentrations temperature, viz. three Open Top Chambers, (T1: OTC eCO2 550±10 ppm; T2: 1°C higher T3: ambient T4: natural air in open. Biochemical analysis revealed that had lower nitrogen. larvae fed as well exhibited greater consumption compared CO2. Larval duration also increased by two days. more digestible values approximate digestibility. relative rate whereas efficiency parameters, conversion ingested food (ECI), digested (ECD), growth (RGR) decreased temperature. weight gain were negatively significantly influenced leaf nitrogen.

Impact of Elevated CO2 on Tobacco Caterpillar, Spodoptera litura on Peanut, Arachis hypogea

If the carbon dioxide (CO(2)) concentration in the atmosphere changes in the future, as predicted, it could influence crops and insect pests. The growth and development of the tobacco caterpillar, Spodoptera litura (Fabricius) (Noctuidae: Lepidoptera), reared on peanut (Arachis hypogea L.) foliage grown under elevated CO(2) (550 ppm and 700 ppm) concentrations in open top chambers at Central Re...

Effect of Different Growing Media and Super Absorbent on Vegetative and Reproductive Growth of Bell Pepper under Salinity Stress Conditions

The use of suitable substrate for vegetable production may reduce losses in production caused by salinity. In order to determine suitable substrate for bell pepper cv. 'California Wonder' under salinity stress conditions, a factorial experiment based on completely randomized design with 4 replications was performed. The experiment consisted of three factors of substrate (coconut fibre, 50% fine...

Effect on biology of jute indigo caterpillar, Spodoptera litura (Fabricius) under five different constant temperatures

Effect of six constant temperatures viz., 18±1 °C, 21±1 °C, 24±1 °C, 27±1 °C, 30±1 °C and 33±1 °C on growth, development and survival of Spodoptera litura (Fabricius). Development rate of egg, larvae, pupae and adult gradually increased with increase in temperature, while the total development period decreased. The total life span of the insect decreased from 64.19±2.86 days at 18±1 °C to 27.18...

Leaf temperature of soybean grown under elevated CO2 increases Aphis glycines (Hemiptera: Aphididae) population growth

Plants grown under elevated carbon dioxide (CO2) experience physiological changes that influence their suitability as food for insects. To determine the effects of living on soybean (Glycine max Linnaeus) grown under elevated CO2, population growth of the soybean aphid (Aphis glycines Matsumura) was determined at the SoyFACE research site at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Illinoi...

Biocontrol efficacy and viability of Trichogramma chilonis on Corcyra cephalonica and Spodoptera litura under laboratory conditions

Trichogramma, an egg parasitoid can be used in controlling many lepidopteran pests. Therefore, it is necessary to demonstrate the capacity of these natural enemies in controlling the pest population so as to use them in biological control programs against the pest. Such an attempt was made in this particular study, where the parasitization rate of Trichogramma chilonis was tested on the eggs of...
