Group creativity in adolescence: Relational, material and institutional dimensions of creative collaboration

Background Studies of group creativity have focused on adults acting in professional settings, with less attention paid to how adolescents collaborate groups creative activities. Building sociocultural perspectives imagination as a complex capacity adolescence, this study examines students’ creative-imagining processes and the role peer influence collaboration.Methods The setting is two-day museum-led workshop topic architecture, which was produced for national touring program middle schools. Video data collaborative interactions comprise primary analysis.Findings identifies material, institutional relational aspects adolescence. A key finding socially negotiated when merit-based knowledge authority an art domain are not valued. also finds that activity may be viewed evidence learning even without consensus group.Contributions This research contributes new understandings adolescents’ arts-based activities school. Principles designs presented:the appropriateness materials; designing dependency open-ended tasks; facilitating productive forms influence.
