Groundwater Salinization and Freshening Processes in the Luy River Coastal Aquifer, Vietnam

چکیده
The Vietnamese Binh Thuan province located along the Southern Central part of coast is one driest in country. population relying largely on groundwater for irrigation, and resources are threatened by climate change saltwater intrusion river estuaries. Recent studies, however, reveal that extension intrusions was larger than expected, raising some doubts actual origin intrusions. In this study, we use geochemical characterization samples collected both dry rainy seasons Luy coastal area to identify hydrochemical processes responsible salinization variations taking place shallow aquifers. distribution chemical components indicators presenting freshening processes, such as cation exchange code chloride conservative element, ionic delta, HFE-diagram, modelling, were studied. results show 65% exceed WHO limit drinking water 100% them have a degree restriction from slight–moderate severe potential irrigation problems according FAO. contrast previous expectations, dominant process aquifers, it more advanced season. Due lack recharge aquifer exploitation, deeper during Saltwater not limited zone close but extends further inland at depth, salinity can vary quickly over short distances. Based these new insights, develop conceptual model evolution catchment involving natural connate combined with anthropic influence. will form basis development study eventually lead sustainable management scenarios region, preventing deterioration resources.

Geochemical characteristics of salinization-zones in the Coastal Aquifer Test Field (CAT-Field) in North-Germany
The geochemical characteristics of a near shore inland aquifer system have been investigated in the Coastal Aquifer Test Field (CAT-Field) between Bremerhaven and Cuxhaven in the Northern Part of Germany which is described by Kessels et al.(this issue). Groundwater and sediment samples from the aquifer were taken at different locations on the flank of a glacial channel at depths between 5 and 1...
متن کاملOrigins and processes of groundwater salinization in the urban coastal aquifers of Recife (Pernambuco, Brazil): A multi-isotope approach.
In the coastal multilayer aquifer system of a highly urbanized southern city (Recife, Brazil), where groundwaters are affected by salinization, a multi-isotope approach (Sr, B, O, H) was used to investigate the sources and processes of salinization. The high diversity of the geological bodies, built since the Atlantic opening during the Cretaceous, highly constrains the heterogeneity of the gro...

Local groundwater in coastal aquifers in Shenzhen has experienced heavy pumping since the 1980’s when Shenzhen began to expand very quickly from a fishing village to a modern city but lacked a public water supply. Meanwhile, large-scale land reclamation was carried out to meet the needs of various urbanization projects. In this paper we analyzed groundwater from a coastal aquifer system in Shen...
