Several Federal, State, academic institutions have studied the availability quality stored in abandoned variety applications, such as economic development, geothermal energy, aquaculture, wastewater disposal. However, spatial stratigraphic controls on produced from are still poorly constrained state-wide basis. In response to these knowledge gaps, U.S. Survey initiated study, cooperation with Department Environmental Protection, understand applicability using existing secondary source data understanding across State. Results calculation net alkalinity indicated that Upper Pennsylvanian beds primarily produce acidic waters Lower alkaline waters. Multivariate statistical analysis elemental supports conclusion northern State generally poor southern good quality. These results substantiate potential benefits leveraging multifaceted resource can be used reconnaissance tool managers characterize local scale.

Minesoil Properties of 15 Abandoned Mine Land Sites in West Virginia
The characteristics of minesoils on abandoned mine land (AML) often dictate which plant species will invade and establish from nearby undisturbed areas. This study measured physical and chemical minesoil properties on 15 AML sites in northern West Virginia and matched these properties to vegetation cover. Fifteen sites ranging in age from 13 to 35 yr old were selected from three surface-mined c...
متن کاملLand Reclamation Natural Revegetation of 15 Abandoned Mine Land Sites in West Virginia
Fifteen AML sites ranging in age from 13 to 35 yr in Northern West Virginia were selected from three surface-mined coal beds (Pittsburgh, Freeport, and Kittanning) to evaluate plant invasion and establishment on disturbed sites. Three 10 m by 10 m plots were randomly located on each site, and cover, density, and stem diameter of all woody plant species were measured. Herbaceous and plant litter...

OBJECTIVES To describe the prevalence of lung function abnormality and coal workers' pneumoconiosis (CWP) by mine size among underground coal miners in Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia. METHODS During 2005-2012, 4491 miners completed spirometry and chest radiography as part of a health surveillance programme. Spirometry was interpreted according to American Thoracic Society and European R...
متن کاملCoal-mine hollow fill and settling pond influences on headwater streams in southern West Virginia, USA.
The influences of coal-mine hollow fills and associated settling ponds in three headwater streams were assessed in southern West Virginia, USA. Fill drainage waters had elevated conductivities and metal concentrations, compared to a regional reference. Benthic macroinvertebrate richness was not affected consistently by the hollow fill drainages, relative to a regional reference, although a more...
متن کاملRouting protocols in underground coal- mine environment: A Review
Researchers have worked on routing issues for adhoc-networks, VANET’s, and Wireless Sensor Networks in a normal scenario; recently there has been a recent trend towards the study on underground wireless networks and proposals for design and development for Wireless Underground Sensor Networks. This paper highlights the concept of wireless underground sensor network in the coal mine environment,...
