Groundwater Characterization and Ecological Assessment: A Case Study of Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos

The only source of water supply in Lagos State University Ojo, is sub surface water. Despite being under possible threats (natural and anthropogenic), the used for irrigation, domestic, recreation drinking purposes, hence need quality verification so as to be sure safety man. Therefore, this study sought physicochemical assessment groundwater University, main campus, employing standard procedures American Public Health Association. Groundwater samples collected bimonthly from twenty five (25) wells were chemically investigated pH, acidity, alkalinity, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, hardness, anions trace metals. data generated chemical laboratory subjected factor cluster analyses. Six principal components (PCs) extracted 79.3 % variance clusters with distinct characteristics also revealed. order exceedance some parameters above WHO limits was NO32- > Mg > Fe SO42- >TH, raising question on its potability. sodium adsorption ratio (SAR), however showed that over 95% analyzed are fit irrigation thus portends human health. impact agricultural activities among others apparent groundwater, regular monitoring by relevant agency, safeguard man ensure sustainability environment.
