Structure of neutron-rich Ar isotopes beyond N = 28.
Results from the gamma-ray spectroscopy of {47,48}Ar exemplifying new limits of sensitivity for characterizing neutron-rich nuclei at energies around the Coulomb barrier are presented. The present results, along with interacting shell model calculations, highlight the role of cross-shell excitations and indicate the presence of a nonaxial deformation in 48Ar.
متن کاملEvolution of shell structure in neutron-rich calcium isotopes.
We employ interactions from chiral effective field theory and compute the binding energies and low-lying excitations of calcium isotopes with the coupled-cluster method. Effects of three-nucleon forces are included phenomenologically as in-medium two-nucleon interactions, and the coupling to the particle continuum is taken into account using a Berggren basis. The computed ground-state energies ...
متن کاملMolecular-orbital structure in neutron-rich C isotopes
The molecule-like structure of the C isotopes (A=12, 14, 16) is investigated using a microscopic α+α+α+n+n+· · · model. The valence neutrons are classified based on the molecular-orbit (MO) model, and both π-orbit and σ-orbit are introduced around three α-clusters. The valence neutrons which occupy the π-orbit increase the binding energy and stabilize the linear-chain of 3α against the breathin...
متن کاملExploring Neutron-Rich Oxygen Isotopes with MoNA
The Modular Neutron Array (MoNA) was used in conjunction with a large-gap dipole magnet (Sweeper) to measure neutron-unbound states in oxygen isotopes close to the neutron dripline. While no excited states were observed in 24O, a resonance at 45(2) keV above the neutron separation energy was observed in 23O.
متن کاملSurvey of ground state neutron spectroscopic factors from Li to Cr isotopes.
The ground state neutron spectroscopic factors for 80 nuclei ranging in Z from 3 to 24 have been extracted by analyzing the past measurements of the angular distributions from (d, p) and (p, d) reactions. We demonstrate an approach that provides systematic and consistent values with minimum assumptions. For the 61 nuclei that have been described by large-basis shell-model calculations, most exp...
