Green Solutions for Urban Sustainability: Photobioreactors for Algae Cultivation on Façades and Artificial Trees

The accumulation of CO2 in the atmosphere carries with it severe consequences, and cities are responsible for 70% emissions. With this initiative, we address how innovative green architecture can contribute to removing from urban area by implementing elements that incorporate microalgae cultivation into architecture. presented project incorporates two photobioreactor installations filled water, where circulate through methacrylate tubes. Used as architectural elements: a façade fix 720 kg per year produce 400 biomass be used fertilizer irrigation water; three artificial trees 50 28 biomass. To test its efficiency, Life Cycle Inventory was conducted compared amount fixed during lifetime. It concluded system would need 11.11 years produced have negative impact 27 tons useful life materials. This is starting point towards developing disruptive experimental alternative great potential, being first Spain one world.
