Gravitational potential and galaxy rotation curves in multi-fractional spacetimes

چکیده
Multi-fractional theories with integer-order derivatives are models of gravitational and matter fields living in spacetimes variable Hausdorff spectral dimension, originally proposed as descriptions geometries arising quantum gravity. We derive the Poisson equation Newtonian potential these starting from their covariant modified Einstein's equations. In particular, case theory $T_v$ weighted small fractional corrections, we find a that grows logarithmically at large radii when exponent takes special value $\alpha=4/3$. This behaviour is associated restoration law for dimension spacetime independently found dark-energy sector same theory. As an application, check whether this can serve alternative to dark galaxies NGC7814, NGC6503 NGC3741 SPARC catalogue. show rotation curves medium-to-large indeed be explained by purely geometric effects, although Tully--Fisher relation not reproduced well. discuss how fix small-radius lifting some approximations test model other observables enlarged galaxy sample.

Modified Gravitational Theory and Galaxy Rotation Curves
The nonsymmetric gravitational theory predicts an acceleration law that modifies the Newtonian law of attraction between particles. For weak fields a fit to the flat rotation curves of galaxies is obtained in terms of the mass (massto-light ratio M/L) of galaxies. The fits assume that the galaxies are not dominated by exotic dark matter. The equations of motion for test particles reduce for wea...
متن کاملGravitational Theory, Galaxy Rotation Curves and Cosmology without Dark Matter
Einstein gravity coupled to a massive skew symmetric field Fμνλ leads to an acceleration law that modifies the Newtonian law of attraction between particles. We use a framework of non-perturbative renormalization group equations as well as observational input to characterize special renormalization group trajectories to allow for the running of the effective gravitational coupling G and the cou...
متن کاملRunning Newton Constant , Improved Gravitational Actions , and Galaxy Rotation Curves
A renormalization group (RG) improvement of the Einstein-Hilbert action is performed which promotes Newton's constant and the cosmological constant to scalar functions on spacetime. They arise from solutions of an exact RG equation by means of a " cutoff identification " which associates RG scales to the points of spacetime. The resulting modified Einstein equations for spherically symmetric, s...
متن کاملFitting Galaxy Rotation Curves Without Dark Matter
The notion is presented that fitting galaxy rotation curves is possible without the invocation of dark matter. Equations of motion similar to those used to describe the internal motions of terrestrial weather systems are applied to the rotation curves of galaxies. However, due to the four-dimensional nature of the equations, additional terms arise. One of these additional terms is particularly ...
متن کاملGalaxy Rotation Curves from String Theory
This is a speculative attempt to connect string theory with cosmological observation. Inspired by an exactly solvable model in string theory, and based on the assumption that all matter is made of strings, galaxies will couple to a string gauge field and execute Landau orbits, much like electrons in an external magnetic field. This three-parameter phenomenological model can adequately fit the g...
