Graphene-electrode array for brain map remodeling of the cortical surface

Abstract Cortical maps, which are indicative of cognitive status, shaped by the organism’s experience. Previous mapping tools, such as penetrating electrodes and imaging techniques, limited in their ability to be used assess high-resolution brain maps largely owing invasiveness poor spatiotemporal resolution, respectively. In this study, we developed a flexible graphene-based multichannel electrode array for electrocorticography (ECoG) recording, enabled us cortical time- labor-efficient manner. The array, formed chemical vapor deposition (CVD)-grown graphene, provided low impedance electrical noise because good interface between graphene tissue was created, improved detectability neural signals. Furthermore, map remodeling induced upon stimulation at surface through subset spots. This result demonstrated macroscale plasticity suggesting perceptual enhancement via rehabilitation surface.
