Production of glass-ceramic from incinerator fly ash
Vitrification is one of the technological options for treating toxic waste. This paper reports the results of the feasibility study of utilizing fly ash from municipal waste incinerators by powder sintering technology. This process was used to transform vitrified incinerated fly ash into a CaO–Al2O3–SiO2 system of glass ceramic products. The major phase exhibited is gehlenite (Ca2Al2SiO7), whic...
متن کاملLong-term leaching test of incinerator bottom ash: evaluation of Cu partition.
Two types of leaching tests were performed on the bottom ash from municipal solid waste incinerators. A short-term batch test specified by the America Nuclear Society (ANS) and long-term column tests with acetic acid (pH 5.2) as leaching solution were used to evaluate copper leachability. The Cu leaching after the 5-d ANS test is about 1% of the original Cu content of 5300 mg/kg. Upon addition ...
متن کاملLeaching Characteristics of Fluoride from Coal Fly Ash
Leaching of fluoride from fly ash has been studied at different ash/water ratios and temperatures and also over a broad range of pH. The efficiency of leaching was only slightly dependent on the ash/water ratio, thus revealing a solubilitycontrolled mechanism of the process. The efficiency was also independent of the temperature over the range 20 90°C.
متن کاملSize characterization of incinerator fly ash using sedimentation/steric field-flow fractionation.
Fly ash particles emitted from municipal solid waste-incinerators are of environmental concern. This study aims to investigate the applicability of sedimentation/steric field-flow fractionation (Sd/StFFF) and to develop a Sd/StFFF method for the separation and size characterization of incinerator fly ash. This study focuses on the fly ash particles larger than approxiamtely 1 microm, which comp...
متن کاملExperimental and numerical analysis of metal leaching from fly ash-amended highway bases.
A study was conducted to evaluate the leaching potential of unpaved road materials (URM) mixed with lime activated high carbon fly ashes and to evaluate groundwater impacts of barium, boron, copper, and zinc leaching. This objective was met by a combination of batch water leach tests, column leach tests, and computer modeling. The laboratory tests were conducted on soil alone, fly ash alone, an...
