Gonoactivity of Culex (Culex) (Diptera: Culicidae) Mosquitoes During Winter in Temperate Argentina

چکیده
Abstract The subgenus Culex L. includes species involved in summer–autumn arbovirus transmission but studies during winter are scarce temperate Argentina. Female specimens were collected host-seeking at dry-ice-baited traps autumn–winter–spring two sites Córdoba City 2016 and 2017. morphologically identified dissected to determine the follicular developmental stage (gonotrophic activity). Females with advanced stages (≥III) subjected molecular procedures confirm or re-identify previous morphological identification. Five (Culex apicinus Philippi (Diptera: Culicidae), dolosus (Lynch-Arribálzaga) maxi Dyar pipiens quinquefasciatus Say Culicidae)) found gonoactive winter; showing that a high proportion of (Culex) females remain reproductively active unfavorable season for mosquito populations. Among them, it is worth noting collection Cx. quinquefasciatus, vector St. Louis encephalitis virus (endemic city), specimen p. pipiens, hybrid pipiens/Cx. (during autumn). study this community should continue because female was found: 29.12 13.07% 2017, respectively. Local such as one provide evidence about ornithophilic year-round life cycles, could favor overwintering.

Seasonal abundance of Culex tarsalis and Culex pipiens complex mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) in California.
Large-scale patterns in the seasonal abundance profiles of the arboviral mosquito vectors Culex tarsalis Coquillett and the species of the Culex pipiens complex were described based on a decade of counts from 868 New Jersey light traps located throughout the urban and agricultural areas of California. Mean seasonal abundance profiles varied markedly among hydrologic regions. For all species, ab...
متن کاملPhylogenetic relationships of Culex (Culex) species (Diptera, Culicidae) from Argentina based on morphological characters.
The purpose of this study was for the first time to establish phylogenetic hypotheses among Culex (Culex) species from Argentina, and to evaluate the relationships of this subgenus with subgenera Phenacomyia and Phytotelmatomyia. We employed maximum parsimony to analyse morphological characters derived from the morphology of the adult, pupal and larval stages. More than 30 figures, including ph...
متن کاملCOI barcode versus morphological identification of Culex ( Culex ) (Diptera: Culicidae) species: a case study using samples from Argentina and Brazil
Sequences of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) mitochondrial gene from adults of 22 Culex (Culex) species from Argentina and Brazil were employed to assess species identification and to test the usefulness of COI for barcoding using the best close match (BCM) algorithm. A pairwise Kimura two-parameter distance matrix including the mean intra and interspecific distances for 71 COI barcode...
متن کاملPeroral susceptibility of Aedes albifasciatus and Culex pipiens complex mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) from Argentina to western equine encephalitis virus.
The transmission cycle of western equine encephalitis (WEE) virus in South America is unknown. A WEE virus strain was isolated from Aedes albifasciatus in Argentina during the WEE epizootic of 1982-83. Also, Culex pipiens from Argentina was reported to be able to transmit WEE virus experimentally, but other results indicate that Cx. pipiens from the USA is refractory to this virus. We determine...
متن کاملStudies on mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) and anthropic environment. 10- Survey of adult behaviour of Culex nigripalpus and other species of Culex (Culex) in south-eastern Brazil.
A survey of adult behaviour of Culex (Culex) species was carried out from August 1992 through December 1993 in a human modified (anthropic) environment in the Ribeira Valley, S. Paulo State, Brazil. Culex nigripalpus dominated the catches at several sites and it's tendency to increase in the anthropic environment became quite clear. Nevertheless no high level of synanthropy was demonstrated. So...
