چکیده
Using observations from the Global-scale Observations of Limb and Disk (GOLD) mission, we investigate post-sunset ionospheric responses to September 2019 Antarctic sudden stratospheric warming –first ever a synoptic perspective. reveal prevalent quasi-6-day periodicity in equatorial ionization anomaly region over South America Atlantic, coincident with enhanced wave (Q6DW) activity mesosphere (Liu et al., 2021, https://doi.org/10.1029/2020JA028909). The atmosphere-ionosphere coupling via large-scale waves is rarely studied ocean due lack observations. More importantly, further analyses suggest that multiple pathways are involved transmitting middle atmosphere into F-region ionosphere, including modulation field aligned winds pre-reversal enhancements by tides or Q6DW. A remarkable depletion electron density, attributable overall change thermosphere composition driven dissipative Q6DWs, also seen during period Q6DW activity.

Observations of gravity wave forcing of the mesopause region during the January 2013 major Sudden Stratospheric Warming
Studies of vertical and interhemispheric coupling during Sudden Stratospheric Warmings (SSWs) suggest that gravity wave (GW) momentum flux divergence plays a key role in forcing the middle atmosphere, although observational validation of GW forcing is limited. We present a whole atmosphere view of zonal winds from the surface to 100 km during the January 2013 major SSW, together with observed G...
متن کاملAirglow observations over the equatorial ionization anomaly zone in Taiwan
Airglow imaging at mid-latitude stations often show intensity modulations associated with medium scale travelling ionospheric disturbances (MSTID), while those carried out near the equatorial regions reveal depletions caused by equatorial plasma bubbles (EPB). Two all sky cameras are used to observe plasma depletions in the 630.0 nm emission over the equatorial ionization anomaly (EIA) region, ...
متن کاملThe Antarctic stratospheric sudden warming of 2002: A self-tuned resonance?
[1] The extraordinary Antarctic stratospheric warming event of 2002 was characterized by a remarkable vertical structure, with the vortex observed to divide at upper levels in the stratosphere but not at lower levels: such ‘partially’ split vortex events are relatively rare. A simple, yet fully three-dimensional, model is constructed to investigate the dynamics of this unique event. Planetary w...
متن کاملStratosphere - Troposphere Interaction during Stratospheric Sudden Warming Events
The stratosphere and the troposphere exhibit a strong coupling during the winter months. However, the coupling mechanisms between the respective vertical layers are not fully understood. An idealized spectral core dynamical model is utilized in the present study in order to clarify the coupling timing, location and mechanisms. Since the coupling between the winter stratosphere and troposphere i...
متن کاملWave Reflection and Focusing prior to the Major Stratospheric Warming of September 2002*
Observations of the Southern Hemispheric winter conditions indicate that the major warming of September 2002 resulted from a combination of stationary wave-1 and traveling wave-2 forcing events and suggest that wave and mean-flow anomalies present earlier that winter may have also played a role. Quantities such as the location of the zero wind line, the strength and wave geometry of the vortex,...
