Global trends and local variations in land take per person

چکیده
Globally, urban areas are growing at a faster rate than their population, potentially reducing environmental sustainability due to undesirable land take in (semi)natural and agricultural lands. However, it is unclear what extent this trend varies locally, which may hamper the formulation implementation of local-scale policies context global competition for land. Here, we attribute built-up change population dynamics changes per person, >75,000 administrative regions worldwide, typically representing municipalities or counties. Results show that expressed as area capita, relate 38.3%, 49.6%, 37.5% total increase during periods 1975–1990, 1990–2000, 2000–2015, respectively, but with large local variations. Interestingly, find centres cities densify all three periods, while rural an opposite development, suggesting polarization effect. We also densification many Global South already have high density, leading potential trade-offs terms human wellbeing. Therefore, our work provides novel insights into debate on sustainable development scale.

Global land moisture trends: drier in dry and wetter in wet over land
The "dry gets drier, wet gets wetter" (DGDWGW) paradigm is widely accepted in global moisture change. However, Greve et al. have declared that this paradigm has been overestimated. This controversy leaves a large gap in the understanding of the evolution of water-related processes. Here, we examine the global moisture trends using satellite soil moisture for the past 35 years (1979-2013). Our r...

متن کاملSurface Observed Global Land Precipitation Variations during 1900–88
The authors have analyzed global station data and created a gridded dataset of monthly precipitation for the period of 1900–88. Statistical analyses suggest that discontinuities associated with instrumental errors are large for many high-latitude station records, although they are unlikely to be significant for the majority of the stations. The first leading EOF in global precipitation fields i...
متن کاملGlobal, local, and graphical person-fit analysis using person-response functions.
Person-fit statistics test whether the likelihood of a respondent's complete vector of item scores on a test is low given the hypothesized item response theory model. This binary information may be insufficient for diagnosing the cause of a misfitting item-score vector. The authors propose a comprehensive methodology for person-fit analysis in the context of nonparametric item response theory. ...
