Global ocean colour trends in biogeochemical provinces

چکیده

Satellite-derived ocean colour data provide continuous, daily measurements of global waters and are an essential tool for monitoring these in a changing climate. Merging observations from different satellite sensors is necessary long-term continuous climate research because the lifetime limited. A key issue deriving trends merged inconsistency between spatiotemporal coverage sensor datasets that can lead to spurious multi-year fluctuations or time series. This study used dataset produced by Ocean Colour Climate Change Initiative (OC-CCI version 6.0) infer local optically active constituents. We applied novel correction method OC-CCI results spatiotemporally consistent dataset, allowing examination constituents with greater accuracy. included sea surface temperature, salinity, several oscillations our analysis gain insight into underlying processes derived trends. Our indicate significant increase chlorophyll -a concentration polar waters, decrease chlorophyll- some equatorial point darkening, predominantly due non-phytoplankton absorption. contributes broader knowledge their relation environment.

Mediterranean Ocean Colour Chlorophyll Trends

In being at the base of the marine food web, phytoplankton is particularly important for marine ecosystem functioning (e.g., biodiversity). Strong anthropization, over-exploitation of natural resources, and climate change affect the natural amount of phytoplankton and, therefore, represent a continuous threat to the biodiversity in marine waters. In particular, a concerning risks for coastal wa...

Global Biogeochemical Cycles Energetic costs of calcification under ocean acidification

Anthropogenic ocean acidification threatens to negatively impact marine organisms that precipitate calcium carbonate skeletons. Past geological events, such as the Permian-Triassic Mass Extinction, together with modern experiments generally support these concerns. However, the physiological costs of producing a calcium carbonate skeleton under different acidification scenarios remain poorly und...

Assimilation of ocean colour data into a Biogeochemical Flux Model of the Eastern Mediterranean Sea

An advanced multivariate sequential data assimilation system has been implemented within the framework of the European MFSTEP project to fit a three-dimensional biogeochemical model of the Eastern Mediterranean to satellite chlorophyll data from the Sea-viewing Wide Field-ofview Sensor (SeaWiFS). The physics are described by the Princeton Ocean Model (POM) while the biochemistry of the ecosyste...
