In South America, the urban population has been growing rapidly over last century, with a share of more than 80% expected by 2020. This trend created new challenges for city planning because municipalities must address issues caused horizontal expansion and informal occupation peripheral areas. Frequently, latter are not designed or equipped basic needs inhabitants. research is based on work MGI, an initiative smart, sustainable development in Piura, intermediate one highest rates sprawl Peru. promotes climate change adaptation mitigation analysis embodied sustainability profile action-oriented roadmap concrete, feasible, replicable measures projects. One such measure spatial analysis, prioritising small illegal dumpsites recovery converting these areas into public space using digital tools. study analyses intervention to be implemented against city´s opportunities challenges.
