Retinex filtering and thresholding of foggy images
Recently, we have discussed the use of GIMP Retinex, a filter of the GNU Image Manipulation Program, for enhancing images in several applications, ranging from those obtained by microscopes to the images coming from satellites. Retinex can also enhance foggy images: here we investigate the role of GIMP filter in their thresholding for binarization.
متن کاملEffects of GIMP Retinex Filtering Evaluated by the Image Entropy
A GIMP Retinex filtering can be used for enhancing images, with good results on foggy images, as recently discussed. Since this filter has some parameters that can be adjusted to optimize the output image, several approaches can be decided according to desired results. Here, as a criterion for optimizing the filtering parameters, we consider the maximization of the image entropy. We use, beside...
متن کاملGIMP and Wavelets for Medical Image Processing: Enhancing Images of the Fundus of the Eye
The visual analysis of retina and of its vascular characteristics is important in the diagnosis and monitoring of diseases of visual perception. In the related medical diagnoses, the digital processing of the fundus images is used to obtain the segmentation of retinal vessels. However, an image segmentation is often requiring methods based on peculiar or complex algorithms: in this paper we wil...
متن کاملRemoving Shadows From Images using Retinex
The Retinex Theory first introduced by Edwin Land forty years ago has been widely used for a range of applications. It was first introduced as a model of our own visual processing but has since been used to perform a range of image processing tasks including illuminant correction, dynamic range compression, and gamut mapping. In this paper we show how the theory can be extended to perform yet a...
متن کاملMr Images Enhancement Using Retinex
Magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, is a way of obtaining very detailed images of organs and tissues throughout the body without the need for x-rays or "ionizing" radiation. Instead, MRI uses a powerful magnetic field, radio waves, rapidly changing magnetic fields, and a computer to create images that show whether or not there is an injury, disease process, or abnormal condition present. A new ...
