Giant energy storage effect in nanolayer capacitors charged by the field emission tunneling

We fabricate nanolayer alumina capacitor and apply high electric fields, close to 1 GV/m, inject charges in the dielectric. Asymmetric charge distributions have been achieved due selectivity of quantum tunneling process. Namely, electrons cannot tunnel a region near cathode, where total energy would be less than potential energy. This mechanism exhibits strong tendency populate traps located anode, i.e., regions their is lowest. injection allows permanent storage bulk even if plates are short-circuited, provided that temperature sufficiently low so conductivity dielectric negligible. In our experiments, stored was up seven half times higher on plates. Also, measurements breakdown voltage show field, strength, independent thickness
