Germination Performances of 14 Wildflowers Screened for Shaping Urban Landscapes in Mountain Areas

Despite the high biodiversity in Mediterranean region, use of wildflowers from mountain areas urban landscaping projects is hampered by limited information on their seed germination performances. This research evaluated traits 14 native herbaceous wildflower species northern west Italian alpine and subalpine areas. Seed Petri dishes at 25 °C was performed, applying two different photoperiod conditions (light/dark 0/24 h or 12/12 h). A rate rapid are key features for seedling nursery production; thus, main indices were evaluated: final percentage, index relative to light, time first germination, reach 50% germinated seeds, period, mean time. Overall, Bellis perennis L., Leucanthemum vulgare Lam., Taraxacum officinale Weber, mesophilic mountainous hilly grasslands, Dianthus carthusianorum L. Lavandula angustifolia Mill. higher altitudes, turned out be interesting. Particular attention could paid D. synchrony both growth conditions, speed, short period (8.5 16.2 days dark respectively).
