Geosynthetic reinforced piled embankment modeling using discrete and continuum approaches

چکیده
Understanding the load transfer mechanism can support engineers having more economical design of geosynthetic reinforced piled embankments. This study aims to investigate mechanisms by two different numerical methods including Discrete Element Method (DEM) and Finite Difference (FDM). The DEM model adopts (a) discrete particles simulate micro-structure granular materials (b) coupled element – finite method (DEM-FEM) capture interaction between geotextiles. On other hand, FDM uses an advanced constitutive soil considering hardening softening behaviour materials. results show that geotextiles only contribute vertical loading resistance in cases where soils piles are soft enough. In terms design, optimum value geotextile tensile stiffness be found load, thickness embankment. Both a high is not required since extra will slightly efficiency Nevertheless, both models useful optimize

Stress Transfer Modeling in CNT Reinforced Composites using Continuum Mechanics (TECHNICAL NOTE)
Because of the substantial difference in stiffness between matrix and nanotube in CNT composite, the stress transfer between them controls their mechanical properties. This paper investigates the said issue, analytically and numerically, in axial load using representative volume element (RVE). The analytical model was established based on the modified Cox’s shear lag model with the use of some ...
متن کاملGeosynthetic Materials and its Properties for Reinforced Earth Structures
The national planners have put infrastructures development on priority. This has resulted in transport planning widening of National Highway and new roads in country. Thus work of Retaining Earth (RE) structures/ slopes will be going to design in very large numbers over different areas. The availability of backfill material compatible with geosynthetics reinforcements and economy in both has be...
متن کاملModeling angiogenesis: A discrete to continuum description.
Angiogenesis is the process by which new blood vessels develop from existing vasculature. During angiogenesis, endothelial tip cells migrate via diffusion and chemotaxis, loops form via tip-to-tip and tip-to-sprout anastomosis, new tip cells are produced via branching, and a vessel network forms as endothelial cells follow the paths of tip cells. The latter process is known as the snail trail. ...
متن کاملNon - Critical Superstrings : a Comparison between Continuum and Discrete Approaches
We review the relation between the matrix model and Liouville approaches to two-dimensional gravity as elaborated by Moore, Seiberg and Staudacher. Then, based on the supersymmetric Liouville formulation and the discrete eigenvalue model proposed by Alvarez-Gaumé, Itoyama, Mañes and Zadra, we extend the previous relation to the supersymmetric case. The minisuperspace approximation for the super...
