چکیده
The landscape of the Lower Mesopotamia Plain (LMP) has been moulded by water-related processes, consequently, its Holocene geomorphic evolution strictly connected to fluvial process and anthropogenic water management since 8000 BC. About 6000 years ago, during maximum marine ingression, modern cities Nasiriyah Al-Amara were close Persian Gulf shoreline. Successively, Tigris Euphrates developed two wide delta systems, that prograded south-eastward developing a complex network. Remote sensing investigations over LMP using satellite imagery topographic analysis revealed surficial expression deltaic bodies with lobate planform several terminal distributary channels (TDCs), classifiable as tidal-influenced river-dominated deltas. Tell Zurghul archaeological site, belonging ancient State Lagash, expanded in western part recognized TDC Mid- Late Holocene. Indeed, occurrence divergent multi-channel system supplied for early civilizations, which improved prevented floods through canals Therefore, multi-sensor remote approach an area 2850 km2 allowed us recognize landforms, both still active relict, attributable riverscape LMP, well features aeolian deposits. Main map is geomorphological at scale 1:120,000 centred on Zurghul, focusing geometry, spatial distribution, state activity erosional constructional landforms.
