Geomorphological response of sandy beach to tropical cyclones with different characteristics

چکیده
Tropical cyclones (TCs) play important roles in the evolution of beaches. The response beaches to a single tropical cyclone (TC) has been well reported, however, few studies have compared responses same beach TCs with different characteristics. Taking Haiyang Beach northern China Seas as case study, profiles before and after two TCs, Lekima Bavi, which passed through west east sides study area, were investigated. exhibited erosion at upper foreshore minor deposition near mean high water level (MHW) subaqueous sandbars formed nearshore zone, whereas all showed little changes Bavi. A high-resolution FVCOM model was established eleven sensitive experiments conducted simulate hydrodynamic induced by tracks, intensity duration. Then Xbeach used display due conditions. It is found that significant storm surge strong seaward bottom current landward wind side area should responsible for profile changes. Negligible rise related eastern path can only result change beach. Swell contributes most wave height while less effect on In this we conclude effects are primarily dependent relative position TCs’ tracks.

Clouds in Tropical Cyclones
Clouds within the inner regions of tropical cyclones are unlike those anywhere else in the atmosphere. Convective clouds contributing to cyclogenesis have rotational and deep intense updrafts but tend to have relatively weak downdrafts. Within the eyes of mature tropical cyclones, stratus clouds top a boundary layer capped by subsidence. An outward-sloping eyewall cloud is controlled by adjustm...
متن کاملENSO and sandy beach macrobenthos of the tropical East Pacific: some speculations
The influence of the ENSO cycle on marine fauna and flora has only recently been given the attention it deserves. The very strong 1997–1998 El Niño and its obvious effects on marine biota was a key point in ENSO research, but unfortunately few quantitative data about the 1997–1998 El Niño itself are available. To gather information about the effect of ENSO on the macrobenthos, we performed a bi...
متن کاملThe Dynamics of Tropical Cyclones
The specific objectives of the current effort are: 1. To continue our study of the dynamical processes in tropical cyclones responsible for looping or erratic motion; 2. To continue the development of methods for (a) the introduction of synthetic tropical-cyclone-scale vortices in operational forecast models and (b) ensemble forecasting of tropical cyclones; 3. To continue a sensitivity study o...
متن کاملTargeted Observation of Tropical Cyclones
The advance in targeted observations of tropical cyclone movement is reviewed in this article. The targeted observations from DOTSTAR (Dropwindsonde Observations for Typhoon Surveillance near the Taiwan Region) in understanding and improving the tropical cyclone track predictability is highlighted, along with the progress of the field program of THORPEX-PARC in the summer of 2008. The impact of...
متن کاملInfluence of waves and horseshoe crab spawning on beach morphology and sediment grain-size characteristics on a sandy estuarine beach
The effects of wave action and horseshoe crab spawning on the topography and grain-size characteristics on the foreshore of an estuarine sand beach in Delaware Bay, New Jersey, USA were evaluated using data collected over six consecutive high tides. Data were gathered inside and outside a 25 m long exclosure constructed to create a control area free of disturbance by crabs. The density of crabs...
