Geographic roots, anthropological routes: New avenues in geographies of religions

Since their advent, geographies of religions have emerged as a kaleidoscopic, vital, yet often misunderstood subset social and cultural geography. In this article, I respond to Kong's call (2010) for geographers turn the neglected functional, mythic, symbolic dimensions religion. First, offer brief disciplinary biography, outlining seminal currents research over past century. doing so, identify two scalar poles analysis around which emergent literature is oriented – individual/affective collective/structural. At interface these rich, albeit under-theorised, field geographic analysis. To address this, Turner's theory on ritual performance way better approach engage with fundamentality rituals in (re)generation religious worlds.
