Geographic patterns of tree dispersal modes in Amazonia and their ecological correlates

چکیده
Aim To investigate the geographic patterns and ecological correlates in distribution of most common tree dispersal modes Amazonia (endozoochory, synzoochory, anemochory hydrochory). We examined if proportional abundance these could be explained by availability agents (disperser-availability hypothesis) and/or resources for constructing zoochorous fruits (resource-availability hypothesis). Time period Tree-inventory plots established between 1934 2019. Major taxa studied Trees with a diameter at breast height (DBH) ≥ 9.55 cm. Location Amazonia, here defined as lowland rain forests Amazon River basin Guiana Shield. Methods assigned to total 5433 species morphospecies within 1877 tree-inventory across terra-firme, seasonally flooded, permanently flooded forests. investigated modes. performed an abundance-weighted mean pairwise distance (MPD) test fit generalized linear models (GLMs) explain Results Anemochory was significantly, positively associated annual wind speed, hydrochory significantly higher Dispersal did not consistently show significant associations fruits. A lower dissimilarity modes, resulting from dominance endozoochory, occurred terra-firme (excluding podzols) compared Main conclusions The disperser-availability hypothesis well supported abiotic (anemochory seems unlikely explanation Amazonia. association frugivores zoochory requires further research, recruitment only depends on vectors but also conditions that favour or limit seedling forest types.

Dispersal and noise: various modes of synchrony in ecological oscillators.
We use the theory of noise-induced phase synchronization to analyze the effects of dispersal on the synchronization of a pair of predator-prey systems within a fluctuating environment (Moran effect). Assuming that each isolated local population acts as a limit cycle oscillator in the deterministic limit, we use phase reduction and averaging methods to derive a Fokker-Planck equation describing ...

although there are studies on pragmatic assessment, to date, literature has been almost silent about native and non-native english raters’ criteria for the assessment of efl learners’ pragmatic performance. focusing on this topic, this study pursued four purposes. the first one was to find criteria for rating the speech acts of apology and refusal in l2 by native and non-native english teachers...
15 صفحه اولInterferometric forest height for modeling spatial tree patterns in Amazonia
The spatial distribution of very large trees in primary Amazon forest is extracted from a digital model of interferometric forest height by an approach of local maximum filtering. The spatial point patterns of very large trees are modeled by a series of Markov point process models. Spatial distribution is regular, and interaction decreases with distance; very large trees are shown to exert repu...

Ecological correlates and conservation implications of overestimating species geographic ranges.
Species range maps based on extents of occurrence (EOO maps) have become the basis for many analyses in broad-scale ecology and conservation. Nevertheless, EOO maps are usually highly interpolated and overestimate small-scale occurrence, which may bias research outcomes. We evaluated geographical range overestimation and its potential ecological causes for 1158 bird species by quantifying EOO m...
