چکیده

The eastern Tien Shan hosts substantial mid-latitude glaciers, but in situ glacier mass balance records are extremely sparse. Haxilegen Glacier No. 51 (eastern Shan, China) is one of the very few well-measured and comprehensive glaciological measurements were implemented from 1999 to 2011 re-established 2017. Mass (1999–2015) has recently been reported, record not extended period before 1999. Here, we used a 1:50,000-scale topographic map long-range terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) data calculate area, volume, changes for 1964 2018. lost 0.34 km2 (at rate 0.006 a−1 or 0.42% a−1) its area during 1964–2018. experienced clearly negative surface elevation geodetic balance. Thinning occurred almost across entire surface, with mean value −0.43 ± 0.12 m a−1. calculated average was −0.36 w.e. Without considering error bounds estimates, loss over past 50 years line observed modeled (−0.37 0.22 that published short time intervals since slightly less than Shan. Our results indicate Riegl VZ®-6000 TLS can be widely unmonitored individual glaciers.

A twentieth century major soluble ion record of dust and anthropogenic pollutants from Inilchek Glacier, Tien Shan

Using a high-resolution (~18 samples/year) major soluble ion record (Na, K, Mg, Ca, Cl!, NO3 !, and SO4 2!) covering the period 1908–1995 A.D. from the Inilchek Glacier, Tien Shan, Kyrgyzstan, we provide a detailed climate and environmental proxy record for the region. Chemical concentrations, empirical orthogonal function analyses, and noncrustal excess calculations are used to identify natura...

South Cascade Glacier mass balance , 1935 – 2006

A simple model uses daily observations of precipitation and temperature at a nearby weather station to estimate glacier-average seasonal mass-balance components at South Cascade Glacier, Washington, USA, from 1935, 24 years before measurements began at the glacier. This is 13 years earlier than measurements that can be derived using the NCEP–NCAR reanalysis database (begins 1 January 1948). Alt...

Linking glacier annual mass balance and glacier albedo retrieved from MODIS data

Albedo is one of the variables controlling the mass balance of temperate glaciers. Multispectral imagers, such as MODerate Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board the TERRA and AQUA satellites, provide a means to monitor glacier surface albedo. In this study, different methods to retrieve broadband glacier surface albedo from MODIS data are compared. The effect of multiple reflections due to...

the aesthetic dimension of howard barkers art: a frankfurtian approach to scenes from an execution and no end of blame

Geodetic Mass Balance of the Northern Patagonian Icefield from 2000 to 2012 Using Two Independent Methods

We compare two independent estimates of the rate of elevation change and geodetic mass balance of the Northern Patagonian Icefield (NPI) between 2000 (3,856 km2) and 2012 (3,740 km2) from space-borne data. The first is obtained by differencing the Shuttle Radar TopographyMission (SRTM) digital elevationmodel (DEM) from February 2000 and a Satellite pour l’Observation de la Terre 5 (SPOT5) DEM f...
