Genomic approaches for monitoring transmission dynamics of malaria: A case for malaria molecular surveillance in Sub–Saharan Africa

چکیده

Transmission dynamics is an important indicator for malaria control and elimination. As we move closer to eliminating in Sub-Saharan Africa (sSA), transmission indices with higher resolution (genomic approaches) will complement our current measurements of transmission. Most the present programmatic knowledge patterns are derived from assessments epidemiologic clinical data, such as case counts, parasitological estimates parasite prevalence, Entomological Inoculation Rates (EIR). However, eliminate endemic areas, need track changes population how they impact This made possible through evolving field genomics genetics, well development tools more in-depth studies on diversity parasites complexity infections, among other topics. If elimination be achieved globally, country-specific activities should supported by genomic data regularly collected blood samples diagnosis, surveillance possibly interventions. presents a unique opportunity spread shed additional light intervention efficacy. In this review, various genetic techniques highlighted along their significance enhanced understanding distinct topological settings throughout Africa. The importance these methods limitations guide strategies, explored.

Reducing Malaria Transmission in Africa

0268 Bernard Cazelles and colleagues looked at the details of the relationship between dengue incidence and El Niño in Thailand. Their results, based on complex mathematical analysis, do not provide easy answers for those who might want to plan for dengue outbreaks, though they do go some way to helping to understand the complex interplay between the various factors. In essence, the researchers...

A Research Agenda for Malaria Eradication: Monitoring, Evaluation, and Surveillance

Monitoring, evaluation, and surveillance measure how well public health programs operate over time and achieve their goals. As countries approach malaria elimination, these activities will need to shift from measuring reductions in morbidity and mortality, to detecting infections (with or without symptoms) and measuring transmission. Thus, the monitoring and evaluation and surveillance research...

Monitoring parasite diversity for malaria elimination in sub-Saharan Africa.

The African continent continues to bear the greatest burden of malaria and the greatest diversity of parasites, mosquito vectors, and human victims. The evolutionary plasticity of malaria parasites and their vectors is a major obstacle to eliminating the disease. Of current concern is the recently reported emergence of resistance to the front-line drug, artemisinin, in South-East Asia in Plasmo...

Residual Transmission of Malaria: An Old Issue for New Approaches

Malaria is one of the most serious vector-borne diseases, affecting millions of people mainly in the tropics. Recently, a substantial decline in malaria incidence has been observed all over the world. Vector control is one of the key elements in achieving this world-wide malaria decline, with scaling up of Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) and the expansion of Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) progr...
