Genetic Improvement in Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.): Progress and Outlook: A Review
نویسندگان
چکیده
Sesame production and productivity are severely constrained by a lack of high-yielding locally adapted varieties, susceptibility to capsule shattering low seed retention, biotic abiotic stresses, modern pre- post-harvest technologies. Unimproved landraces widely cultivated in sub-Saharan Africa, including Ethiopia. The landrace varieties yielders (<0.6 tons·ha?1), but they possess intrinsic oil quality characteristics, such as unique aroma taste. Therefore, current future sesame genetic improvement programs should integrate yield- quality-promoting traits, local adaptation, amenability machine harvesting, other industrially essential food feed attributes for multiple utilities. This can be achieved integrating the conventional breeding methods, well genomic techniques mutation genomics-assisted breeding. objective this review is document progress, opportunities, challenges with regard improvement, variety release, deployment enhanced yield related agronomic content fatty acid compositions. highlights sesame’s economic values, status, major constraints, breeding, their integration, accelerated cultivar development market-preferred traits.

Floral Biology and pollination requirements of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.)
This study aimed to investigate the floral biology and pollination requirements of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.), cultivar CNPA G2. The study was carried out at Barbalha, State of Ceará, and consisted of two phases: floral biology and pollination requirements. Flowers were observed as for time of anthesis, lifespan and stigma receptivity, and were applied the following pollination treatments: ope...
متن کاملAssociation Of Heterosis With Combining Ability And Genetic Divergence In Sesame (Sesamum Indicum L.)
Parental diversity is considered desirable to exploit heterosis in any breeding program. The present investigation was undertaken to search out whether any relationship existed between heterosis of cross combinations with phenetic divergence, combining ability and genetic divergence of parents in sesame. Seven sesame genotypes and their 21 cross combinations developed through half diallel matin...
متن کاملGenetic Divergence in Sesame (sesamum Indicum L.) Landraces Based on Qualitative and Quantitative Traits
Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) is one of the world’s oldest oil crops and has been cultivated in Asia since ancient times. The breeding potential of the germplasm accessions held in PGRP gene-bank has hardly been exploited to date. This study was carried out to evaluate the phenotypic variability in the local sesame genotypes using 16 qualitative and quantitative traits. A total of 105 sesame acce...
متن کاملGenetic Analysis and QTL Mapping of Seed Coat Color in Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.)
Seed coat color is an important agronomic trait in sesame, as it is associated with seed biochemical properties, antioxidant content and activity and even disease resistance of sesame. Here, using a high-density linkage map, we analyzed genetic segregation and quantitative trait loci (QTL) for sesame seed coat color in six generations (P1, P2, F1, BC1, BC2 and F2). Results showed that two major...
متن کاملGenetic Diversity of Sesame (sesamum Indicum L.) Germplasm from Pakistan Using Rapd Markers
Genetic diversity among 20 sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) accessions was examined at DNA level by means of random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis. Ten primers used produced a total of 93 RAPD fragments, of which 70 (75%) were polymorphic. Each primer generated 5 to 17 amplified fragments with an average of 9.3 bands per primer. Based on pair-wise comparisons of RAPD amplification product...
