G-quadruplex là cấu trúc bậc 2 của DNA hay RNA mà đóng vai trò quan trọng trong các quá trình sinh học như sao chép, phiên mã, dịch mã và kéo dài telomeres. Do đó, được xem một phân tử mục tiêu việc thiết kế thuốc trúng đích ứng dụng y sinh. Trong nghiên cứu này, nuclease mới phát triển có khả năng nhắm song thực hiện chức cắt tại vị trí đặc hiệu. Enzyme tạo ra bằng phương pháp kết hợp peptit RHAU53 nhận diện với vùng protein xúc tác Fok1, nên dung RHAU53-Fok1. Protein này thể biểu hệ thống E. coli dưới sự cảm IPTG tinh chế sắc ký ái lực cột His.
