چکیده
Ultrasonic testing has been used for many decades, proving itself very efficient detecting defects in industrial sectors. The desire to apply ultrasonic geometrically complex structures, and anisotropic, inhomogeneous materials, together with the advent of more powerful electronics software, is constantly pushing applicability waves their limits. General ray tracing models, suitable calculating proper incident angle single element probes time delay phased array, are currently required. They can support development new imaging techniques, as Full Matrix Capture Total Focusing Method, execution challenging inspections. This paper introduces a generalized iterative method computation paths, when source target separated by multiple material interfaces two dimensional three domains. manuscript starts review well-known bisection method, extends cases increasing complexity. An application example, field in-process weld inspection, shows that introduced generalised enable optimum incidence angles focal delays accurate focusing. There no restriction on analytical be surjective. Interface folding permitted. It not necessary know, priori, what sequence crossed rays. presented implementation completes each iteration 4 ms, case interface, 960 ms 52 interfaces.

Ray-tracing and Interferometry in Schwarzschild Geometry
Here, we investigate the possible optical anisotropy of vacuum due to gravitational field. In doing this, we provide sufficient evidence from direct coordinate integration of the null-geodesic equations obtained from the Lagrangian method, as well as ray-tracing equations obtained from the Plebanski’s equivalent medium theory. All calculations are done for the Schwarzschild geometry, which resu...
متن کاملDynamic Acceleration Structures for Interactive Ray Tracing
Acceleration structures used for ray tracing have been designed and optimized for efficient traversal of static scenes. As it becomes feasible to do interactive ray tracing of moving objects, new requirements are posed upon the acceleration structures. Dynamic environments require rapid updates to the acceleration structures. In this paper we propose spatial subdivisions which allow insertion a...
متن کاملUltrasonic Plate Waves for Fatigue Crack Detection in Multi-layered Metallic Structures (preprint)
A representative area of concern for fatigue crack growth in aircraft occurs in multi-layered metallic structures. Ultrasonic plate waves are currently being investigated by multiple initiatives to detect these types of flaws with a minimal number of sensors to enable Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). Previous work has focused on structures with one or two layers, coupled with modeling of the...
متن کاملRay Tracing Method
Although the optical microscope has been the main tool for observations of etched tracks in solid state nuclear track detectors for many years, there has been relatively little investigation about the optical characteristics of these tracks. This chapter describes the application of the ray tracing method to light propagation through these etched tracks. The method is shown to be able to reprod...
متن کاملRay effect in ray tracing method for radiative heat transfer
The ray effect in ray tracing method was analyzed and three new ray emitting methods for a surface element (method A, B and C) were presented. Numerical computations of viewfactors for three different typical configurations indicated that the proposed methods can significantly eliminate the ray effect. Compared with the conventional ray emitting method, the proposed methods, especially method C...
