Kinematic Model and Workspace Analysis of Tendon-driven Continuum Robots
Continuum robots have excited increasing attention and effort from robotic community due to their high dexterity and safety. This paper designs a continuum robot equipped with an elastic backbone structure and tendon-driven system. The kinematic model of such robot is formulated and a novel approach to analyze the workspace is developed by identifying the interference between the backbone struc...
متن کاملKinematics for Constrained Continuum Robots Using Wavelet Decomposition
Over the past several years, there has been a rapidly expanding interest in the study and construction of a new class of robot manipulators which utilize high degree of freedom, or continuous, backbone structures. In this paper, we consider some basic properties of these "continuum'' or "hyperredundant'' robots. We base our analysis around remotely-driven, tendon-actuated manipulators such as t...
متن کاملMechanics of Continuum Robots with External Loading and General Tendon Routing
Routing tendons in straight paths along an elastic backbone is a widely used method of actuation for continuum robots. Tendon routing paths which are general curves in space enable a much larger family of robots to be designed, with configuration spaces and workspaces that are unattainable with straight tendon routing. Harnessing general tendon routing to extend the capabilities of continuum ro...
متن کاملSolving the Forward Kinematics of Cable-Driven Parallel Robots with Neural Networks and Interval Arithmetic
This paper investigates a new approach for solving the forward kinematics of cable-driven parallel robots. This approach combines an interval algorithm with neural networks to provide a fast but accurate initial guess. The neural networks increase the computation speed by a factor of 200 or more, while the interval algorithm provides guaranteed convergence and a definite solution to any chosen ...
متن کاملThe forward kinematics of cable-driven parallel robots with sagging cables
Solving the forward kinematics (FK) of parallel robots is known to be a difficult task and the problem is even more complex for cable driven parallel robot (CDPR): the system of equations that has to be solved is larger than with rigid legs as first the static equations have to be taken into account and, second because the deformation of the cables because of their elasticity and their mass may...
