Gene editing of livestock

چکیده

Gene editing technologies allow users to make in vivo (live) changes an organism’s DNA. Advances the field of gene have made it arguably more precise, efficient, flexible, and cheaper compared previous technologies. This has generated upsurge interest its governance, including livestock applications. Although promises benefits, also raises technical, ethical, societal questions alongside prospect (radical) transformation. Since technology is still be developed into marketable products, designs, visions, or what we term “sociotechnical imaginaries” that shape represent important site for sociological inquiry. In this article, based on analysis interviews with breeding company representatives agricultural scientists Netherlands, analyze assumptions, values, commitments underpin their imaginaries. These imaginaries matter, since negotiation will help structure how develops subsequently transform human–animal relations. our analysis, discursive practices from interview data distilling three sociotechnical respondents discuss livestock. Elaborating imaginary concept amenable emerging dynamics livestock, show need studied “in place” terms “material practices.” Even though each frame as desirable beneficial, they nevertheless differential effects industry, researcher, government, consumer/citizen We conclude by discussing why matter implications governance research.

Gene supplementation and editing in livestock for biomedical and agricultural applications

the conservation of gene-function and physiology between people and livestock species advocates for their utility in modeling human disease. Furthermore, agricultural animal production will play a pivotal role in providing high-quality protein to advance human health in the face of a burgeoning global population. Both the development of animal models and the improvement of livestock for food ca...

Gene Editing Versus Morphants

Kok et al. conclude that results with Morpholino oligos, which are not recapitulated by natural mutations or gene editing mutations, must be due to off-target effects and, when morphants and mutants differ, they contend that antisense oligo studies should be disregarded. Morpholinos and gene editing mutagenesis are very different technologies and, even if both work perfectly, may yield differen...

Core Concept: CRISPR gene editing.

Just a few years ago, molecular biologists hoping to alter the genome of their favorite organisms faced an arduous task and likely weeks of genetic tinkering. Today, those scientists can quickly destroy or edit a gene with a new technology called CRISPR (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat)/Cas9. “It really opens up the genome of virtually every organism that’s been sequenc...
