Gender Differences in Clinical Characteristics of Korean Temporomandibular Disorder Patients

The aims of this study were to investigate the gender differences in signs and symptoms Korean Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD) patients based on Research Diagnostic Criteria for Disorders (RDC/TMD) psychosocial characteristics. A total 1052 with TMD evaluated a questionnaire medical history, clinical symptoms, contributing factors, examination RDC/TMD, radiographic examination. RDC/TMD axis II Symptom Checklist-90-Revision (SCL-90-R) administered evaluate pain-related disability level psychological status patients. prevalence was higher women than men, older men. showed myogenous pain, mixed disc displacement without reduction, osteoarthritis, headache, subjective insomnia, pain intensity, number positive muscle palpation, high group grade chronic scale. Gender associated palpation maximum mouth opening. Pain intensity not gender, but systemic comorbidities. Subjective characteristics differences. To achieve understanding patient increase success rate treatment TMD, should be considered evaluations approaches.
