Gastroduodenal Perforation in a Child With Sickle Cell Anemia: A Case Report

Objectives: Gastroduodenal perforation (GDP) is a rare cause of acute abdominal pain in children. Case Presentation: A 12-year-old boy presented with around the periumbilical and epigastric region on 7previous days. His familial history was significant for sickle cell anemia mother minor thalassemia father. He had been diagnosed at age 4 years received blood transfusion hydroxyurea every month. At physical examination, distended abdomen decreased intestinal sounds were seen. Also, he cholecystectomy (for cholelithiasis). Fecal occult detected, while no Helicobacter pylori antigen present. Abdominal ultrasound examination revealed splenomegaly evidence free fluid. Surgical results showed bile discharge cavity, duodenum pylorus. Conclusions: Since symptoms GDP children are non-specific, especially anemia, it should be considered these patients pain.
