چکیده
ABSTRACT We present radial gas-phase metallicity profiles, gradients, and break radii at redshift z = 0–3 from the TNG50-1 star-forming galaxy population. These profiles are characterized by an emphasis on identifying steep inner gradient flat outer gradient. From this, radius, Rbreak, is defined as region where transition occurs. observe radius having a positive trend with mass that weakens redshift. When normalized stellar half-mass has weaker relation both To test if our results dependent resolution or adopted physics of TNG50-1, same analysis performed in TNG50-2 Illustris-1. find general agreement between each simulations their qualitative trends; however, TNG Illustris differ therefore breaks, size, deviate factor ∼2. In order to understand comes from, we define two relevant time-scales: enrichment time-scale gas mixing time-scale. Rbreak occurs ∼10 times long all three simulation runs, some weak dependence. This implies galactic discs can be thought two-parts: disc mixing-dominated gradient, marking them.

Gas metallicity diagnostics in star-forming galaxies
Generally the gas metallicity in distant galaxies can only be inferred by using a few prominent emission lines. Various theoretical models have been used to predict the relationship between emission line fluxes and metallicity, suggesting that some line ratios can be used as diagnostics of the gas metallicity in galaxies. However, accurate empirical calibrations of these emission line flux rati...
متن کاملMolecular Gas in the Low Metallicity , Star Forming Dwarf Ic
We present a complete survey of CO (1 → 0) emission in the Local Group dwarf irregular IC 10. The survey, conducted with the BIMA interferometer, covers the stellar disk and a large fraction of the extended H I envelope with the sensitivity and resolution necessary to detect individual giant molecular clouds (GMCs) at the distance of IC 10 (950 kpc). We find 16 clouds with a total CO luminosity...
متن کاملThe metallicity of star - forming gas over cosmic time
A brief review concludes that there is now good overall agreement between theoretical estimates of the energy associated with the production of the observed metal content of the Universe and the observed extragalactic background light. In addition the overall form of the star-formation history over 0 < z < 5 is reasonably well constrained. The study of emission line gas in galaxies as a functio...
متن کاملThe Star-Forming Molecular Gas in High-Redshift Submillimetre Galaxies
We present a model for the CO molecular line emission from high-redshift Submillimetre Galaxies (SMGs). By combining hydrodynamic simulations of gas-rich galaxy mergers with the polychromatic radiative transfer code, SUNRISE, and the 3D non-LTE molecular line radiative transfer code, TURTLEBEACH, we show that if SMGs are typically a transient phase of major mergers, then their observed compact ...
